Jay Muigai is a skinny filmmaker with the desire to tell stories through a lens, show sadness in frames and happiness on scores, hustling until she gets to greatness.

We had a few questions for her and this is what she had to say.

1. What was your first phone?

I can’t remember, all I know is I threw it against a wall once and it didn’t break into tiny little pieces. For all intents and purposes I’ll call it el durable-o.

2. What do you prefer between Facebook and Twitter? Why?

Twitter…I sat in a matatu once and watched this guy constantly refresh his Facebook page hoping and waiting for something…anything…a poke god damnit!!!! I vowed that would never be me…

3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years

Hopefully not answering these questions J seriously though, hopefully my plans to take over the world will be in motion.

4. Any question for us? We’ll publish our answer as well

Who’s your daddy? J

5. What would you do if you were president for a day?

I’d make myself president forever and fire everyone, launch the country into a state of anarchy then make a ham and cheese sandwich. Then call Obama and tell him to Deport ZOE SALDANA to my living room.
6. What’s your favourite book& movie?

I’m a Mafia enthusiast. I love the Classics, The Godfather Trilogy, Goodfellas, but my favourite movie of all time is SCARFACE! Cuban Story, Italian Lead actor.
“Amigo, the only thing in this world that gives orders is balls. Balls. You got that?” HAIYA!!!!
My love for Mafia rolls into literature. Mario Puzo is a genius. However it must be stated that when (Mario Puzo) tried to venture into stories not Italian Mafia based he failed. And that’s the gospel according to Skinny.

7. Who/What inspired you to do what you do now?

My Dad showed me a picture of me as a child standing in-front of the television in my diaper holding my sippy cup watching CNN. He whispered in my ear, this is the preamble to greatness. Now I make sure no one takes a picture of me in my down time…
I’ve lived in my head for all of 24 years now it’s time to let a couple of million people in…

8. If you were to change jobs, what profession would you get into? Why?

I’d be a human supercomputer being used by a secret government organization as a spy. #BigDreams

9. If you had a superpower, what would it be?

I’d have the power to give you aquaman’s powers then make you swim with the fishes…
Really, I’d be a shape shifting, mind reading vampire.

10. If you were deserted on an abandoned island what 5 things would you want to have?

First off this question is not cool, who banishes people to an island, a deserted one at that, then gives them 5 things in the world to bring with them?

  • A bunch of Chinese guys (I do believe that they can make anything out of anything) plus they’re fun to look at.
  • A fully stocked and gassed up boat with a captain on deck to drive me back to civilization – I’d get off that lonely island on my boat b***h
  • A supply of Bullet energy drink, green apples, Urban Bites(salted), coke and gum for the wait
  • My camera. I’d love to say I have a Nikon D3x but I don’t. I have a bulky Sony which has gotten me through many weird times.
  • My best friend.

11. If you were a car, what car would you like to be? Why?

I’d be an Autobot-decepticon hybrid, a cross between starscream (perfect testament of how the coward lives through 3 instalments of a movie) and bumblebee (useless thing on wheels but looks hella proper)

12. If you could be in any band in the world, which one would you like to be in? Why?

That’s tough…The Roots…I’d be QuestLove’s even more awesome replacement. Or I’d be Mos Def’s brain. Or I’d be Haley Williams’ (Paramore) sidekick.

13. Share something interesting about yourself with our readers.

I almost drowned when I was two, got hit by a Peugeot 504 in class two, fell in love at twenty two.
My Parents claim they love me regardless, my sister’s lean on me for almost everything, my nephew looks to me for guidance, my ex thinks I’m a psycho and my friends think I’m broken but dependable( like a three legged guard dog)
I think of myself as an empty shell which is constantly being filled with sometimes new, wonderful things and sometimes horrible, life altering things. Good thing is I’m never filled, never at capacity so I’m always that empty shell waiting to be filled…
