KRA has increased its iTax support services to an additional 16 Huduma centers bringing the total number to 22. This expansion has increased KRA’s presence to 13 counties. These centers are currently In Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nyeri, Nairobi and Thika, this has enabled the authority to serve about 2,500 customers per day through the centers.
KRA also been engaging in various tax awareness programmes aimed at creating awareness among taxpayers. The activities include tax clinics, tax education sessions and trainings for various stakeholders. They have also partnered with licensed and trained intermediaries with a view to assisting taxpayers register and file returns through the iTax system.
The system aims at making it easier for taxpayers to access various tax administration services. It allows one to update registration details, file returns, make payments, apply for a Tax Compliant Certificate and lodge a refund claim online.
KRA are currently running a campaign to get taxpayers to file their income tax returns ahead of the 30th June 2015 deadline. However if you like most Kenyans are not able to access the system, they will be accepting manual returns which can be dropped off at their various offices countrywide. So you don’t have an excuse not to remit your returns.
