Africa Center was established in 2004 by Tanner Methvin, Ralph Freese and Adrian Enthoven in Cape Town, South Africa. It is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide a platform for Pan-African arts and cultural practice to function as a catalyst for social change.

Each year, the Africa Centre through their Residency (AIR) programme provides artists with the unique opportunity to spend four to six weeks fully dedicated to developing their craft. AIR works by partnering with existing artist residency programmes around the globe to award exceptional African artists with the opportunity to take up a short-term residency. The AIR programme is designed to support and celebrate the achievements of artists from Africa who are provocative, innovative and highly engaged both with social issues and their art forms.

This year through partnerships with residency programmes in Australia, Brazil, India, Italy, Kenya, Spain, Tanzania and the United States, they will be offering 13 residencies for their 2015 AIR programme. The best thing about it is that if selected the cost of residency and round-trip fare is included in the award.

These residencies are available to artists in different stages of their career development (from emerging to late career) across all disciplines, visual arts, performing arts, creative & literary arts, music & curatorial practice. Each residency offers distinct structure, set of requirements and duration.

Check out their application guidelines for further information about the residency opportunities and apply today. The deadline for submission is 30th September 2015.
