Infinix have launched yet another phone in the Kenyan market, the Infinix Hot 2 X510. The phone runs on a new Android program called Android one. Android one is a standard created by Google for Android phones mainly targeted at people buying their first smart phones. The first Android one smart phones were rolled out in India and other South Asian countries in 2014. This is the first Android one device in Africa. Google manages design, development, marketing and support for the devices with manufacturing carried out by original equipment manufacturers, in this case Infinix.

I have had a chance to use the phone for a week now and this is my take;

Operating System

The Hot 2 comes with Android Lollipop 5.1, the latest and fastest version of Android and will automatically get new versions when released. All apps which came pre-installed in the phone were Google apps with the exception of the Jumia shopping app.

RAM, Memory and Processor

The phone comes with 1 GB RAM, 16GB of memory and a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor.

The processor and RAM combine smoothly to ensure that the device runs smoothly without hanging even when you have opened multiple screens. The 16GB memory is enough for apps and files. In case you need additional space, the memory is expandable up to 32GB through a micro SD.

Screen

The Infinix Hot 2 has a 5.0 inch IPS 720*1280 pixels touchscreen.

The screen size and resolution is quite good and is ideal for reading and gaming too. It is made of dragon glass making it anti-scratch and resistant to native damage.infinix 4

Camera

The phone comes with an 8 megapixel back camera and a two megapixel front camera. The back camera is good for daylight shooting and brings out the details in the shots. The 2 megapixel front camera takes decent selfies, not the very best but it gets the job done. I took these photos at the Afrika Handmade Symposium 2015 currently ongoing at Alliance Francaise so be the judge.

Battery

The phone comes with a 2200mAh Li-Ion battery.

The battery life is not all that as it will last you a day with moderate usage quite unlike the Infinix Hot Note. The good news is that in case you start running out of charge the phone has a battery saving feature that can extend your battery life by restricting background data of apps. This helps extend your battery life for about 90 minutes, you just need to set your phone to automatically enable the power saver when the battery runs low.

Build and design

The phone has curved edges which make it fit in your hands nicely. The phone is available in several colours.

Price and Availability

The phone is available for Kshs.8, 999 on Jumia

Warranty and Support

The phone comes with a 1 year warranty. Support and service is available via Carlcare service centres.

Conclusion

The phone is quite good with a very affordable price point. All in all it is a great phone and I predict it will do well in this market.
