Gathoni Kimuyu, AKA @QueenGathoni, is a mother on of one, shoe addict, hopeless romantic, TV producer and scriptwriter. She is also a peer sex educator and a digital influencer.

We had a few questions for her and this is what she had to say.

1. What was your first phone?

Siemens A55 AKA Ka-roll on (because of the shape of course)

2. What do you prefer? Facebook or Twitter? Why?

Twitter. I love how it stays fresh. Notice how it has become a news source for lazy media houses. If you miss a day on twitter, you almost miss a lifetime.

3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years.

Running a functional TV production house.

4. Any question for us? We’ll publish our answer as well.

Do you know Johnnie?

Johnnie Ginger? Yes. Very well :-).

5. What would you do if you were president for a day?

Enjoy tax payers money to the fullest. The things i would like to change cant be done in a day.

6. What’s your favourite book & movie?

Movie – Shawshank Redemption
Book – I cant decide between Khaled Hosseini’s A thousand splendid suns and Margaret A. Ogola’s The river and the source.

7. Who/What inspired you to do what you do now?

Nobody really. I have always had a passion in writing and TV Production. Naomi Kamau however helped me grow that passion.

8. If you were to change jobs, what profession would you get into? Why?

I would be a radio presenter. I love to talk. Growing up, I used to imitate Leonard Mambo Mbotela on his ‘Je, huu ni ungwana’ show.

9. If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Time travel. Who wouldn’t love to move between different points in time?

10. If you were deserted on an abandoned island what 5 things would you want to have?

  • Idris Elba (with his ‘mic wire’)
  • Oreos
  • A matchbox
  • A Knife
  • A map

11. If you were a car, what car would you like to be? Why?

Mercedes G500. Too much power in one machine.

12. If you could be in any other band in the world, which one would you like to be in? Why?

Maroon 5. Adam Levine has enjoyed the limelight alone for too long.

13. What are the challenges that Kenyan TV/Film producers face? What’s the way forward?

Funds and airtime, but mostly airtime. TV stations need to embrace more local content and that way there shall be competition and better quality shows. Better quality shows will mean viewership and which always translates to sponsorship, which means (more) money!

14. Share something interesting about yourself with our reader.

  • I worked for an insurance company before venturing into TV production.
  • I wrote the starting Montage jingle for Machachari.
