An internal audit at the Ministry of Health shows that officials have stolen more than 5b shillings in the last year alone. That’s 21% of the national healthcare budget for 2016/2017. The money was stolen through diversion of funds, double payments, and manipulation of the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMIS).

It was meant for the free maternity program, Kenya Medical Training Institute (KMTC), the purchase of mobile clinics and many other things.
