Iconic environmental warrior and Nobel Prize winner Wangari Maathai finally has a road named after her. The road, now named Prof. Wangari Maathai Road, was formerly called Forest Road.
Previous efforts to have Limuru Road named after her hit a brick wall even after the Nairobi County Assembly successfully passed a motion approving the name change.
Karura MCA Kamau Thuo initially filed the motion to rename Limiru Road to Wangari Maathai Road. He followed up and finally succeeded in getting another road, Forest Road, named after her.
