The Nairobi Hospital held their annual Children’s Charity Fund Golf Tournament yesterday at the Karen Country Club. The initiative was aimed at raising funds for treating children with congenital heart conditions who are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

During the tournament Cyllus Onyango emerged as the winner in the event which attracted over 150 golfers. Teeing off from the back nine Onyango garnered a total of 43 points to walk away with the trophy. In the men’s category Alex Kimaru was declared winner having managed to get a total of 42 points, only a point shy of Onyango the overall winner. George Makori emerged the first runner up after bagging 39 points. In the ladies’ category E Gathoni was the winner with a total of 40 points followed by Vicky Karuga who bagged 36 points.

When the tournament was held last year, the contributions came to over Ksh. 2.4 Million. This enabled the hospital to perform 11 heart surgeries for underprivileged children majority of whom could not access quality medical care and were destined for premature deaths. These children are now living a better life.

This year the target was to raise over Ksh. 8.5 Million with the money going towards not only covering the cost of operations but also changing the lives of the children, their families and their communities
