Sibiloi National Park - Main Gate

Sibiloi National Park has been chosen by astronomers as the best place to the eclipse on Nov 3 as it is only at the park where clear skies will occur.

“Standing in these untouched landscapes – gazing up at the unreal fuchsia hues of the solar prominences, the swirling wisps of corona around the black disk of the Moon – promises to be an experience one will carry forever,” Phyllis Kandie, Tourism, Commerce and EAC Cabinet Secretary.

Kenya has been placed on the world map boasting as one of the best locations on earth to view this hybrid total solar eclipse, which according to scientists might reoccur in 2117 – 104 years from now. Tourists will also witness a 14- 22 seconds sunset total eclipse of the Sun by the shores of Lake Turkana in a desert landscape.

This is why I am going to Sibiloi. To see something I might never in my life and to strike one more place off my bucket list (107 to go).

This is a 5 day trip to the expansive- arid North, the cradle of mankind as it is known. The Jade Sea.

I have secured a landcruiser to take us on this trip, all I need is people to join me and we’ll see Kenya from the other side. Someone who will take a chance with me to:

See a Kenya that is wild and remote, that few have been lucky enough to visit
Visit Sibiloi National Park- a world heritage site and considered the “Cradle of Mankind”
Witness the solar eclipse for a spetacular 14-22 seconds
Wake up next to Lake Turkana – the “Jade Sea” and the largest alkaline lake in the world
