MultiChoice Kenya has announced a 50% price reduction in the cost of its GOtv decoders to help speed up Kenya’s Analogue Switch Off efforts which are set for December 31st 2014. The company has reduced the price of the GOtv set top box from Sh3,399 to Sh1,799 (incl. 2 month GOtv Plus subscription).

GOtv has also announced that it will be opening all its channels, to all subscribers regardless of their bouquet or subscription status at no extra charge from Friday 5th December to Sunday 7th December 2014.

“It’s an open content weekend on GOtv. This means subscribers can now enjoy all their favourite entertainment programmes, broadcast in digital quality and all you need is a GOtv decoder,” said GOtv Kenya General Manager, Felix Kyengo.

Since its launch in 2011, GOtv has been playing a pivotal role in assisting the Kenyan government to achieve a smooth transition from analogue to digital television broadcasting.

“GOtv is uniquely placed as the home of African television. We have made great progress in delivering channels made in Kenya for Kenyans – like Maisha Magic Swahili – and have committed ourselves to offering channels made in Africa for Africa,” said Mr Kyengo. Kyengo also assures Kenyans of an extensive GOtv decoder distribution network in all leading supermarkets and MutiChoice agents countrywide.

The first switch off will happen in Nairobi on 31st December and GOtv is urging consumers to purchase their GOtv decoders well ahead of the deadline to avoid the last minute rush. GOtv decoders will be available at over 2000 selling points in this city and you can get a full list of retailers on their website.
