The second edition of Kenya’s Social Media Awards (SOMA) is here. OLX Kenya, is set to make a comeback as the title sponsors. This year’s Awards themed “Making Social Media Work for You” will bring together different players in the market including corporate organizations, personalities, SMEs, students, county governments, and national government agencies. The awards are set to be officially be launched on July 22nd.

SOMA creates a platform for individuals and organizations to celebrate the contribution of social media in the social, economic and political spheres by recognizing those who have used it positively to impact lives.

Speaking about the sponsorship, OLX Kenya CEO, Mr Peter Peter Ndiangu’i said the initiative is in line with the company’s strategy to promote the growth of businesses and communication through social media.

“The Awards, which are online driven, offers a better platform to enhance product and consumer engagement through creativity and innovation,” he said.
The Director of OLX Social Media Awards, Mr. Martin Muli, said the Awards will be used to highlight the influence of social media on brand building and encourage companies to intensify online presence.
Mr. Muli said new categories will be introduced this year to make the Awards more exciting and inclusive.

“After the success of the inaugural Awards, we are reviewing the categories to ensure all those who have immensely contributed to the growth of social media are appreciated,” said Mr. Muli.

Last year, the OLX Social Media Awards had 25 categories including Social Media News Channel of the Year, Social Media Personality of the Year, Social Media Corporate Award of the Year and Social Media Innovation of the Year.
