PIVOT EAST
PIVOT East, an annual mobile startups pitching competition and conference is now open for 2015 applications. The competition that is organized by partnership among the University of Nairobi, m:lab, iHub, eMobilis and the World Wide Web Foundation is now in its 5th year, having begun operation in 2011 and aims to catalyze the growth of mobile startups.

This year’s objective is to facilitate the discovery of the next wave of high potential mobile startups in the region. PIVOT East defines startups as a company or temporary organization designed to search for repeatable and scaleable business model.

Should your startup meet this definition then you should feel free to apply.

Application requirements

1. A detailed startup profile describing what problem the startup seeks to solve
2. The startup’s solution to the problem mentioned above.
3. Revenue streams
4. Team composition and commitment
5. Short term projections and milestone expectations.

The startups must be domiciled in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, DRC, Rwanda, South Sudan or Somalia and must fall in PIVOT East’s definition of a startup. Decisions of the judging committee will be final at all stages.

The competition has five categoriess; Mobile Finance, Mobile Enterprise, Mobile Entertainment, Mobile Utilities and Mobile Society and Governance. In each category there will be five finalists who will get to pitch their ideas to mobile industry players from across East Africa in addition to training and coaching on how to conduct their pitches.

Interested startups can apply here before April 30, midnight, East African Time. The applications should be accompanied by a 5 minute video detailing the startups founding mission and strength. Additional information on the application process can be found on PIVOT East’s website.
