Terminal 1A

JKIA (Jomo Kenyatta International Airport) has a new terminal. Named Terminal 1A, the new terminal has been in construction since 2006. The new terminal is the first development that the airport has undergone since it was unveiled in the 70’s.

The new terminal was constructed by the Wu Yi Company of China with an architects consortium of Queen’s Quay Architects International Inc and Mueller International Inc consulting for the project.

The new terminal will be used exclusively by Kenya Airways and its partner airlines (Sky Team Partners).

The new terminal will have a centralized security screening area complete with full body scanners which means that passengers will not be subjected to further screening at the boarding gates. Other features of the terminal include:

  • Separation of arrival and departure wings
  • 32 check in counters
  • 7 boarding bridges
  • Automated baggage handling system
