Nominees for the East Africa Property Awards have been announced. 98 submissions were received in the 20 categories in the awards

“The real estate industry is growing at a tremendous rate with a lot of landmark developments coming up, these awards are a medium that enables us celebrate these who are doing an outstanding job,” said Architect Musau Kimeu Chairman of the East African Property Awards Adjudication Jury. ‘By showcasing those who are doing well we hope to raise the standards and quality in the real estate sector at the same time encourage more players in the industry to step up and be more innovative”

The evaluation of the entries was overseen by a panel of senior and respected real estate executives pooled from government and various real estate organizations drawn from Ministry of Land, Housing & Urban Development, Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) and University of Nairobi. The adjudication jury included Arch Musau Kimeu of School of the Arts and Design and Chairman Environmental Design Consultants Chapter (AAK), Collins Makunda Lecturer UON Department of Architecture, Susan Araka Housing Officer, Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development, Arch Emma Miloyo.

The panel was charged with looking for entries reflected a high standard in design in the industry while serving its occupants.

Despite the number of entries reported the judges noted a lack of confidence from developers and industry players.

“One thing we noted is that a lot of entrants despite having a good track record tended to under represent themselves. We encourage future entrants to pay more attention to their documentation and put together higher quality submissions that fully represent their projects”, said Architect Susan Araka, Housing Officer, Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban development.

Nominees will be subjected to online voting until the 16th of November, 2014 where the nominee with the highest votes from the public will be selected as winner to be awarded at a gala event on 26th November 2014.

  1. In the nominations of upcoming “Best Internet Marketing Portal of the Year” conducted by East Africa property awards, we have uncovered hidden baloney. 4 websites were nominated but the data is nothing close to the truth. Here is a dissertation of baloney.

    1. http://www.realtorhaven.com
    – website doesn’t have any listings. It
looks more like a DIY portal to build real estate website. No testimonials exist
as to who has used the services. Their contact number says Call 909.660.3108?? Where
is that? Its FAQ link directs queries to forum- however there is no forum link.
Not sure if it’s a Kenyan site or a global portal.

    2. http://www.kenrax.com/#-
has no clear statistics, seems to have no more than 11 properties. Their
property database hasn’t changed in the last 14 days; they seem to have old
stock. I tried to search property in Mombasa but found nothing…!

    3. http://www.findhomeskenya.co.ke-
appears to have only 20 agents, its Agents page link that reads “find an agent” says page 1 of 19
meaning there should be 20 x 19 = 380 agents- however only 20 agents are
visible!??; Where are the other agents? Only 170 properties are listing.

    4. http://www.buyrentkenya.com-
quoted recently to claim to have 20,000 listings, really??. Not true at all. We
have gone through the site and only a maximum of 1,600 properties are
displayed. 32 properties are listed in Mombasa. There is a link that says
website has 10,000 properties. “Find an agent” link not working and only
displays 10 ‘Agents’. Its statistics are not clear. Number of property listed
per page and number of pages to be viewed not stated. Regarding banners
    displayed are they paid ads?

    No hard feelings, but
if you going to award a business, award it based on merit, honesty, truth and
    professionalism.
