Milk for the longest time has been used as a beverage due to its rich creamy flavour and the various nutrients that it harbours. However what many people don’t know is that milk’s usefulness extends beyond the kitchen. Here are a few uses of milk that you probably did not know about;

Cooking Fish

Milk can be used to enhance the taste of fish. All you have to do is put a frozen fish in a bowl filled with milk and leave it to thaw. After cooking the fish will have a richer flavour and a smoother texture.

Corn Flavour Booster

For those not in the know, corn is just the gisty name for boiled maize aka mtungo. In order to boost the flavour, pour some milk in the water used to boil the maize then stir. When both ingredients have been mixed, place the maize in the mixture. Leave it in the sufuria until the water boils. This will result in a richer and sweeter taste. Try it next time you feel like indulging in some boiled maize

Hand Soap

Are you one of those guys with hands as hard as a rock that scare anyone who gives you a handshake? Well milk has just the solution for you, we all know that overworked hands are susceptible to skin hardening and development of calluses. You can pamper them by applying cold milk to the calluses and hardened layers of skin. You will have a pair of soft and clean hands right after. If your skin is the stubborn kind and still remains hard, don’t fret just apply cold milk three times a day. Eventually you will notice a marked difference before the week ends.

China Repair

China in this case refers to utensils and not the country. Apparently you can fix broken cups and plates by boiling them in milk. Milk proteins for some reason react to china and then turn into an adhesive. So before you throw out those broken dishes why not give this method a try.

Milk Bath

Yes you heard me right, taking a bath in milk. It is actually a better moisturizer than most soaps and it is also an effective skin softener. Fill your bathtub with milk and take a dip. Let the milk work on your skin for about an hour. After the milky bath your will definitely have softer and better looking skin.

Facial Mask

Due to milk’s rich and creamy base, it is a natural moisturizer. As such it can be used to create a skin pampering facial mask. All you have to do is prepare a cup of milk powder then add a little water, stir the mixture until a fairly thick paste is formed. Once done, spread the facial mask on your face and let it rest for 30 minutes. Wash your face and rinse right after. Your skin will be softer and will have a nice healthy glow as if you had used an actual facial mask.

Shaving Cream Substitute

Picture this, you are in the house and need to shave off that ka-stubborn stubble of beard. Checking in the bathroom closet the shaving cream is kaput. Worry not milk is a worthy substitute. You just need to mix a generous amount of powdered milk with a little water. When a thick paste has been formed, apply it on your face before shaving.

Makeup Remover

Ladies, have you ever come home tired and tried to wash away the makeup from your face but it took too much time and effort? Make the process much easier by switching water with powdered milk and warm water. Apply the solution on the makeup and in a matter of minutes, your face will be back to normal.
