The much awaited arrivals at Terminal 1A has finally been operationalized. Construction of the entire terminal started back in 2006 while construction on the arrivals side started in July 2014. The departure side of Terminal 1A started operating back in August 2014. The new terminal handled its first live test-flight on Monday last week.

Arriving and departing passengers do not mix which is a key security requirement under international aviation standards. The new terminal will be used exclusively by Kenya Airways and its partner airlines (Sky Team Partners).

Departures Terminal IE that is meant for use by other airlines is almost ready and should be ready for use soon.

The arrivals terminal has the capacity to handle about 2.5 million passengers per annum and has the following facilities;

  • 18 immigration counters
  • 5 baggage reclaim belts
  • 6 customs desk
