Kenyan NGO, Moving the Goalposts (MTG), has won the Sport for Good award at the Laureus World Sport Awards. Other winners included Serena Williams, the world’s top women’s tennis player, who was named the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year 2016.

Moving the Goalposts is a community based women empowerment organization that was founded in 2001. It is based in Kilifi and it works with girls and young women aged 9-25 years that are based in Kilifi and Kwale Counties. It uses football to empower girls and young women by helping them to fulfill their potential both on and off the football field. More than five thousand girls and young women (aged 9 – 25 years) participate in MTG’s football leagues and another three thousand in annual MTG tournaments. In addition to football, MTG helps lead health awareness and education projects.

The MTG Executive Director, Rachel Muthoga, collected the award on behalf of the organization.
