Kenyan tech company Ongair has set up an office in Hong Kong as part of its Asia expansion strategy. This comes 4 months after the company raised $125,000 to fund the expansion from Nest, Zeytin Limited, Venture Kinetics and other angel investors.

The choice of Hong Kong as its Asia entry point was informed by the high penetration rate of Instant messaging in the country. It ranks 3rd is WeChat usage in the world and is in the top 15 in WhatsApp usage worldwide. Ongair already has Hong Kong clients such as FoodPanda and TravelFlan and it also has companies like Ogilvy & Mather and Bluebell group in its sights.

Founded by Trevor Kimenye and Charles Gichuki in 2014, Ongair enables businesses to connect to their customers through instant messaging platforms such as Whatsapp, WeChat, Telegram and Line.

The Hong Kong office will be have a sales manager (they are hiring for this position nest.vc/careers) and someone to handle customer support.
