Konnect Africa is set to launch a public Wi-Fi hotspot service in Kenya. The service will be powered by satellite broadband and will also launch in Benin, Cameroon, Lesotho, Nigeria, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania and Uganda.

Konnect Africa was formed in 2015 and is owned by French satellite provider, Eutelsat. Konnect will utilize Eutelsat’s infrastructure. The company has said that it plans to provide affordable internet through a pay as you go model. The company will partner with Ubora Systems in Kenya to provide the service.

Konnect Africa will compete with Surf, which recently launched Express Wi-Fi in Kenya. The Surf Wi-Fi hotspot service however, is powered by Fiber.
